We believe that health is a basic right for all the people, regardless of class, ability, age, sex, race, immigration status, sexual orientation and other social status. The KPDS is a non-governmental organization with membership of progressive.

The KPDS is a non-governmental organization with membership of progressive pharmacists. We aim to build more democratic, equitable and humane society with full realization of people¡¯s right to health.

The KPDS was officially established on January 21, 1990, with around 100 membership of progressive pharmacists, following the historic ¡°Great People¡¯s Struggle of 1987¡± against the military dictatorship. As of January 2007, the KPDS has increased its membership to over 1,000 and five local branches. The KPDS has emerged, not only as the representative organization of Korean progressive pharmacists movement, but a key organization for people¡¯s right to health in Korean society, since its establishment in 1990.

Currently we are working for the fundamental change of healthcare system. We are seriously concerned about the reality that healthcare is considered as a kind of commodity and the gap of people¡¯s access right to medicine between social classes is dramatically widened because of the neo-liberal globalization. So we are aiming at achieving and strengthening the people¡¯s access right to medicine and public healthcare system.
The key working areas which we are currently focusing on ;

1. Equitable access to affordable medicines for all people
- Gleevec struggles including anti-TRIPS
- Balance between intellectual property and right to access to medicines

2. Drug Safety
- Campaign for PPA, Cisapride withdrawal
- Campaign to better monitor drug-related side effects

3. Equal and comprehensive national
     medical insurance
- Campaign for strengthening of national insurance

4. Anti-War and Neo-liberal Globalization
- Struggles against WTO, FTAs, TNC & the expansion of US military bases in Pyong-taek
- Struggles against the neo-liberal policies such as privatization of public service, shrinking of
     social welfare 5. Solidarity with various social movement groups for democratic and progressive society
- Trying with other groups for anti-nuclear plants and weapons in Korea
